Pastel & Oil Painting: Plein Air & Studio Workshop

St. Tammany Art Association

320 Columbia St., Covington, LA

May 3 - 7, 2010

The St.Tammany Art Association is pleased to announce the offering in 2010 of a workshop by the nationally acclaimed artist, Alan Flattmann. He will conduct an intensive five day workshop covering step-by-step fundamental techniques for painting landscapes and cityscapes with oils and pastels.

The classes will take place at the St. Tammany Art Association and (weather permitting) at various sites throughout the historic town of Covington, Louisiana. Flattmann will discuss the challenges of working from photos and painting on location. He will demonstrate how he creates bold pastel paintings with a multi-layered technique on pumice and sanded papers. Oil demonstrations will cover both brush and palette knife painting. There will be a special emphasis on ways to improve drawing and compositional skills and on methods of completing paintings more quickly. In addition to daily demonstrations, students can expect individual attention with informal critiques throughout each day.

ALAN FLATTMANN, a PSA Master Pastellist, was inducted into The PASTEL SOCIETY OF AMERICA HALL OF FAME in 2006 and is a recipient of the 1996 AMERICAN ARTIST ART MASTERS AWARD for PASTEL TEACHER, as well as many others awards and honors.

For more than thirty years, Flattmann has taught workshops and juried national competitions around the country and abroad. For more information, visit Flattmann’s web site at www.alanflattmann.com or email him at art@alanflattmann.com.
